Monica Cavarino
Modern Baroque Painter and Visonary
My artwork bridges the past and the present, transforming the narratives of art history into mirrors for our contemporary world. Trained in Italy in the traditions of the old masters, I now deconstruct and rework classical imagery in oil and acrylic, revealing the human conflicts and emotions that echo through today. By stripping away historic context and weaving in urgent contemporary motifs, I treat classical art as a living visual language—inviting you to experience history as an active conversation with the present.

The Vision
Rooted in intensive Italian training, my practice resurrects the technical mastery of the old masters to explore the visceral pulse of contemporary feminine power. I leverage the dramatic tension of the Baroque, the deep chiaroscuro and psychological grit, not as a relic, but as a lens to examine the modern female experience. By deconstructing seventeenth-century iconography, I transform passive historical muses into active agents of change, reclaiming their narratives for a new era.
Today, I rework the archetypal heroines of art history, mapping their stories of resilience onto the urgent headlines of our time. Through a deliberate collision of slow, luminous oil glazes and disruptive, graphic acrylics, my work collapses the distance between centuries. I invite you to witness the defiant spirit of the Baroque heroine as it echoes through our current struggle for autonomy and equality, proving that these historic echoes are very much alive.
